What is the difference between stress and anxiety? Both are emotional responses, however stress is caused by a situation, which can be short term, such as deadlines, or health concerns. People under stress experience symptoms such as anger, frustration, fatigue, stomach issues and insomnia.
Anxiety is marked by persistent and excessive worries that remain, even after a perceived stressor has subsided. Anxiety will not go away and leads to more problems, such as, having a hard time focusing, muscle tension, chronic fatigue, and sleep problems. The focus is on past- or future events, always waiting for the "shoe to drop", anticipating for something bad to happen.
Both stress and anxiety can be managed via mindfulness or learning how to relax, however anxiety often requires professional help and guidance to manage symptoms.
A psychologist can be helpful with targeting an appropriate intervention for specific mental health concerns. Here is your place to ask questions and maybe guidance toward finding solutions to your everyday struggles.
